Captive Queen: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine

Rating: ***

I quite liked this book, I took it on holiday with me and it was an easy, fast-paced read. But, in places it was overly-pastoral and sexualised when it didn't add much at all. If you take a large part of it with a pinch of salt, it's a decent holiday read if you like the genre.

I did notice that on finishing when I came home, it began to grate a bit. Towards the end, it became very syrupy and repetitive. The narrative, as a whole, could have been a lot sharper and condensed.
