I struggled with this book, it might be because I have a 13 year old daughter and I was reading it at the end of the Summer holidays but it just left me cold. I found it depressing and rather boring. I felt the characters all quite nebulous, I could not seem to form them in my imagination or care about them in any way at all other than wanting to smack Harriet. I just don't know what to make of the book and was rather pleased to have finished it. Sorry.
